What’s this DC12V connector doing on my POE IP camera?
90% of our customers use POE for power, but not everyone!
The DC12V connector is only necessary if you are not using PoE. If you have a PoE NVR or PoE Switch you can ignore and tuck this cable away. Do not cut this off as doing so will void your warranty.
If you are in a situation where you need to use the DC12V connector, all you will need is a standard 12V DC power supply for each network camera.
Do not power the camera by POE and the wall plug at the same time. This can overload the circuits.
Why even include a DC12V?
Sometimes you need a wall plug. For example, Ni-Cad and SMF lead-free batteries used in some solar powered installations perform better with the AC/DC wall plug than a POE injector. As another example, sometimes when you have one camera it can be more cost effective to use a wall plug than a POE switch. Sometimes, long-range point-to-point wireless networks don't support POE without adding unnecessary complexity.
