How to Design a Security Camera System for Storage Units
Storage units can be a target for theft. Thieves know this is where tenants store valuable items. This floorplan and explanation can help you decide where the best placement for security cameras would be.
Explanation
Goals: One important goal when owning a storage unit facility is to not be held liable for stolen, or even lost items. This means using a quality surveillance system to prevent, or if needed convict, a robbery. The best coverage is making sure you have one camera per isle or row of units, just like you see in this layout here. Also, placing cameras on the perimeter of the property, including entrances and exits, increases your chances that no one can slip in undetected.
The Red cones represent how far away you can recognize someone with our fixed lens 4MP bullet camera, called the Warrior 4.0. With this camera you will recognize someone up to 75ft away with 80 degrees for the field of view.
The Green cones show you how far away you can recognize someone with the Viking 4.0. The Viking has a motorized optical zoom which is ideal for recognizing someone up to 125ft away. The lens can go from 2.8 to 12mm, for a field of view ranging from 91 degrees down to 27 degrees.
The Yellow cones shown in the floor plan represent the Gladiator 8.0, recognizing someone up to 150ft away. The 4k (8MP) camera offers the highest resolution we carry. Ranging from 80 to 35 degrees of coverage, the motorized optical zoom helps protect the perimeter of the storage unit facility.

The Warrior is our most popular camera model. It is tied with the Deputy in terms of how easy it is to install and position, since neither camera requires you to remove any part of the camera to screw it into the wall/ceiling/soffit. This makes it ideal for outdoor use as you don't have a tendency to trap moisture in the lens, as is common with dome cameras, where you have to remove the outer glass dome to mount them. The 81 degree lens is great balance between covering a large area and identifying faces and license plates. Although you can use this camera inside or out, the most common use of the Warrior models (the camera comes in 2MP, 4MP, or 8MP) is to cover the side of buildings or large sections of yards.

The Viking has a motorized telephoto lens that allows you to optically zoom in to see a distant area more clearly. You can adjust the angle of view with our apps, over the web, or via your SCW NVR. Just like with a point-and-shoot camera or a pair of binoculars, when narrow the field-of-view, you zoom in on an area and you can see more detail in that area. Although the Viking is a very popular camera for homes that have a mid-range (35-100 foot) points of concern like gates, roads or driveways, this camera is also frequently used is corporate environment such as long and narrow warehouse aisles.

The Gladiator is very similar to our Viking camera, but has twice the resolution. It has a motorized telephoto lens that allows you to optically zoom in to see a distant area more clearly. You can adjust the angle of view with our apps, over the web, or via your SCW NVR. Just like with a point-and-shoot camera or a pair of binoculars, when narrow the field-of-view, you zoom in on an area and you can see more detail in that area. 4K video records 8 Million pixels per frame and the Gladiator shoots 30 frames per second. The Gladiator also has a P-Iris, which allows it to change its aperture on the fly and optimally focus in all lighting conditions.

If this is not your exact scenario, you would need to modify our pre-made systems slightly. This is very easy to do.
We've listed a 12 channel pre-made system below. You could add that to the cart, which will break it up into its individual parts, and then modify the numbers of each camera. You would also want to add a Gladiator camera, as needed. If all of this seems like to much trouble, we can also send you a custom quote as well.
*If you would like a 4MP fixed lens camera for areas with a short distance then 100ft, you may want to consider the Warrior 4.0 model.
